Software asset management (SAM) is a business practice that involves managing and optimising the purchase, deployment, maintenance, utilisation, and disposal of software applications within an organisation.
In both of these organisations we worke arclaysd to deliver benefits in terms of cost avoidance and legal control of their software asset estate. Building on principles learnt from ITIL and the FAST orgnisation, and incorporating our Business Analysis and project Management skillset to develop and prioritse processes and activities.
For Sony Ericsson this focussed largely on the desktop software estate, working directly with vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe on audit findings to remediate under licence scenarios. Building a process framework for both the pruchase and removal of software; and replacing key frequently used expensive items with alternatives.
For A Bank in Cheshire the activity was directed towards server based “Business Applications” that over the years had bypassed commmon processes and now needed to be brought into line and audited.
In total, over 800 of these such applications existed representing an enormous risk to the Barclays brand. Leading a team of 8 analysts a process was developed, the applications were prioritised and analysed to capture the evidence of licence and usuage.
